THE NATIONAL LOTTERY
********************
The national lottery's machinery has been designed to produce a random selection of numbers for every draw. Assuming that this is the case then (apart from a very exacting physical study of the machinery, air pressure, timing etc.) there is no way of predicting the outcome. This is of course as it should be.
ApriLot makes no claim other than to attempt to achieve the same effect. Used at its minimum level it will do one thing, and that is to save you having to pick the numbers yourself.
However whatever the range of numbers used, the laws of probability suggest that over a given period of time all the numbers will come up at some point. Therefore, ApriLot's suggestions for numbers has been extended to come up with more than just a random selection; that is, it also makes a selection based on those numbers which have been drawn the least number of times, as well as those which have appeared the most. Another prediction is weighted in favour of both the above and the final prediction (named 'Best!') is weighted in favour of all the numbers selected by the other predictions.
The only other option is that which will help you pick a selection of numbers which others haven't chosen (the effect being that should these numbers be drawn then you will be the only winner). Even this has problems though simply because there is no way of knowing the most and least popular numbers which will be chosen by entrants in future draws.
ApriLot, at present, has no feature to help you in the above (although we may add one later). But a couple of pointers may help you decide how best to pick numbers which others may ignore:
a) Many people choose numbers based on birthdays - this only covers those up to 31 (therefore weighting your choice in favour of those above 31 may help to make your choice more unique.)
b) People in the Western world read from left to right and from top to bottom, therefore it is likely that they will pick numbers in that order on the lottery form. This means that if you choose your numbers the opposite way round this may also help (the supposition is that by the time the entrant gets near to the bottom/right of their entry they will have used all six choices up).
c) Avoid 'popular' numbers such as 7. Or say the number of the Derby winner if the draw is for that week!.
d) Make a detailed study of how many big winners there were in each draw. If there were only one or two big winners (or even better - none) then some of the numbers drawn must be 'unpopular' numbers (not to the winners of course!). The problem with this is that 5 of the 6 may be very popular but the sixth one wasn't. Studying the second place winners would then help narrow this down a little. The only way of really knowing is to ask Camelot what the popular numbers have been to date and adjust your choice accordingly.
Whatever way you choose may we wish you the best of luck.

There are 3 windows:
1. The calculator which predicts:
a: A random selection
b: A random selection weighted in favour of the most winning numbers
c: A random selection weighted in favour of the least winning numbers
d: A random selection weighted in favour of both the above
e: A selection based on the above results
There are two further functions in this window:
a: Click on Sort to sort the numbers into ascending order
b: Click on Re-Calc to recalculate the numbers
2. A lottery history window
You can keep !ApriLot up to date by filling in the latest results here
As well as using PageUp/Down there are a number of keyboard short cuts:
Insert: Moves direct to the next unused result line
Home : Moves to the first draw in the history
Up/Down arrow keys: Moves up down a line
Copy: Deletes the text to the right of the cursor
Delete: Deletes the text to the left of the cursor
3. The statistics window
The top line shows the actual lottery numbers 1 to 49
The bottom line shows how many times that number has been drawn
Click on the 'Sort Numbers' field to sort them by ascending order of wins
Another click will sort them into descending order of wins
A further click will sort them back again
By clicking and holding down the Select mouse button the data in any of the windows
can be dragged either direct to another application or to a disc.
